As a couples therapist I want to help you move toward more balance in your relationship. In our work together I can support you to recognize and navigate the repetitive and harmful cycles we can often get stuck in in our attachment relationships. By supporting you to slow down and pay attention in a different way, you can become more aware of the dynamic you create together, and learn how to shift to something more loving and constructive. We can find out what sensitivities are underneath and how to get what you want in a way that works for you and your partner. I want to help you communicate in ways that work for the other to hear. I will support you to learn to both self-soothe as well as attend to one another. We can learn to become more open, curious and compassionate toward our partners and ourselves..
My Background and Experience
I work with people in relationship who want to change their communication patterns, get out of their negative cycle, deepen their bond, continue their relationship after a betrayal, are discovering new identities in themselves and/or their partners, exploring or practicing consensual non-monogamy, working through religious trauma connected to sexuality or gender, and more. I am most excited about working with the mind/body connection using mindful somatic awareness, imagination and creativity. I welcome all populations, and am particularly passionate about work around nervous system regulation, gender, sex & sexuality, trauma and life transitions.
I value a holistic view, looking at mind/body/spirit in context of family, relationships, society, cultures, affinity groups, etc… I find that each level of experience can be an entry point to the others. You won’t need to educate me on the validity of your intersecting identities, and I hold you as absolutely valid and as the expert on your own unique experience. I will use my own curiosity and follow what is important and alive for you. I will do my work to continually educate myself around blindspots and show up in humility and with self awareness. If we work together, I am interested in who and how you are and how you relate to your environment. In therapy we can explore what gets in the way of how you want to be in the world and feel in your own skin. I will support you in growing in awareness and compassion to find more ease and joy in life and relationship.
-Body-oriented psychotherapy, attachment, psycho-biological (PACT), mindfulness, imagination and creativity, parts language and work (gestalt, IFS), trauma informed lens
-I work with adults, teens, and relationships of 2. I celebrate and enthusiastically welcome people of all gender identities and sexual orientations.
-Degrees and Training: I hold an MA in Integral Counseling Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies and a BFA in Photography from the Academy of Art. I have professional training in the Hakomi Method (mindfulness based psychotherapy), Gestalt Therapy, and Love Made Simple (somatic couple therapy) through The Couples Center.
I am informed by PACT, a psychobiological approach to couple therapy, and a polyvagal view of the nervous system and trauma, working with bottom up regulation with awareness of the mind/body connection.
Fun Facts!
-I am a professional photographer, a musician, I am sober, into spirituality and creativity
-Some identities I relate to are: queer, lesbian, sober, person in recovery, ex-LDS/Mormon
